How low should a pendant light hang?

As a general rule, pendant lights should hang so that the base of the fitting sits around 180 to 200cm from the floor in living areas and hallways, keeping the light source comfortably above head height. Over a dining table or kitchen island, pendants can hang lower, typically with the base of the shade sitting around 70 to 80cm above the surface. In double height spaces or hotel lobbies, pendants can be hung much lower to create drama without any risk of obstruction. For trade buyers specifying across multiple rooms, agreeing a consistent drop height at the outset saves a lot of time during installation.

Can pendant lights be used in commercial settings?

Absolutely. Pendant lights are one of the most popular choices for commercial interiors including restaurants, bars, hotels and serviced apartments. Over dining tables and bar counters they create focused, atmospheric light that enhances the guest experience, while in reception areas and lobby ceilings a well-chosen statement pendant can set the tone for an entire space. Our wholesale pendant range includes plenty of styles that are proven performers in commercial environments.

What is the difference between a pendant light and a chandelier?

A pendant light typically refers to a single light fitting that hangs from the ceiling on a cord, cable or rod. A chandelier is a more elaborate fitting that branches out into multiple arms or tiers, each holding its own light source. Both create a strong focal point in a room, but pendants tend to offer a cleaner, more contemporary look while chandeliers lean towards a more traditional or statement aesthetic. Both are available in our wholesale trade range at exclusive prices.

Can I hang multiple pendant lights together?

Yes, and clustering pendants is a really effective design technique, particularly over dining tables, kitchen islands and bar counters. Hanging pendants at varying heights within a cluster adds visual interest and depth, while keeping them at a uniform height creates a cleaner, more structured look. For trade buyers fitting out multiple tables in a restaurant or bar, ordering pendants in bulk from our wholesale range is a cost effective way to achieve a consistent look throughout.

Are pendant lights compatible with dimmer switches?

Many of our wholesale pendant lights are compatible with dimmer switches, though this does depend on the specific fitting and bulb type used. LED bulbs in particular require a compatible LED dimmer switch to work correctly. For hospitality and high end residential projects where ambience and lighting control are important, we'd always recommend checking compatibility before specifying and our trade team is happy to advise.
