Bathroom Lights, Fixtures & Fittings

What IP rating do I need for bathroom lighting?

In the UK, bathroom lighting must comply with specific IP rating requirements depending on where in the bathroom the fitting is positioned. Bathrooms are divided into zones. Zone 0 covers the inside of the bath or shower and requires a minimum of IP67. Zone 1 covers the area directly above the bath or shower up to a height of 2.25 metres and requires a minimum of IP44. Zone 2 covers the area within 60cm of the bath or shower and also requires a minimum of IP44. Outside of these zones, standard non-rated fittings can be used, though many trade buyers opt for IP44 rated fittings throughout for peace of mind. All of our wholesale bathroom lights carry an IP44 rating, making them safe for use in zones 1 and 2.

What is the best lighting for a hotel bathroom?

For hotel bathrooms, a layered approach works best. A central IP44 rated ceiling light provides general illumination, while mirror lights or bathroom wall lights positioned either side of or above the mirror provide the focused, shadow free light that guests need for grooming tasks. This combination is widely used in boutique and luxury hotel bathrooms and creates a polished, considered feel that elevates the overall guest experience. Browse our bathroom downlights are IP44 rated as standard, making them suitable for safe installation in zones 1 and 2.
